What Is Brass Ball Valve?
A brass ball valve is a type of valve, and its main components are made of brass. It controls the flow of fluids (such as liquids and gases) by using the rotation of the ball. There is a circular through-hole on the ball. When the through-hole of the ball is in the same straight line as the inlet and outlet channels of the valve, the fluid can pass through the valve unobstructed. When the ball rotates 90 degrees so that the through-hole is perpendicular to the inlet and outlet channels, the fluid channel is blocked, thus realizing the control of opening and closing the fluid. Brass ball valves are mainly used for cutting off, distributing, and changing the flow direction of the medium.

Application
Household equipment ball valves
Ball valves are extensively used in residential plumbing systems to enable main water and branch shutoffs during leaks. They are also used in standard household devices like water taps, showers, heaters, and washing machines.
Ball valves and hose for gardening
Ball valves can be used in a garden to meet various watering needs. These valves can be attached to garden hoses, watering tools, sprinkler lines, or faucets. Switch off the main water supply while installing the ball valve to the main water line. Connect one port of the ball valve to the main water supply. Screw the garden hose fitting to the other port of the ball valve. Turning the handle to open or close the valve can start or stop the water flow through the hose.
Refrigeration ball valves
Ball valves can be used as shut-off valves in refrigeration, commercial HVAC, and individual air conditioner units. The design, sealing material, and welding should support a safe construction that suits the most demanding requirements, like a high working pressure when operated with refrigerants like R410A.
Ball valves in the oil and gas industry
Ball valves are commonly used as fluid shutoff valves in onshore and offshore oil and gas production facilities. They are also used in fuel gas system feeding furnaces. Ball valves are designed to control the flow of high-pressure gasses and liquids with minimal pressure drop. They have a very low response time which means they are quick to open and close, and these valves have a tight-sealing capability with low torque.
Ball valves are available in a variety of body styles, including reduced bore, full bore and V-notch. Each of these ball valve forms offers specific advantages depending upon the requirements of the given application. The body consists of several parts of the valve including the bonnet and trim.
Reduced port valves have an opening that is smaller than the diameter of the piping. The media flow through the valve is limited to 75%. Reduced port valves have higher pressure drops.
Full port valves have a ball with a bore equal to the inside diameter of the pipe. The advantage to this design is they minimize the pressure drop across the valve and keep the flow from being restricted as it flows. They can be used for throttling applications.
V-notch control valve bodies have a similar construction to standard ball valves. The difference lies in the contoured V-notch in the ball, which produces an equal-percentage flow characteristic. They have good rangeability, control, and shut off capability for use in the paper industry, chemical plants and power industry. The ball remains in contact with the seal during rotation and produces a shearing effect as the ball closes to minimize clogging.

Material and Design
One key design element of ball valves is their construction material. Ball valves can be constructed from a wide range of materials, such as metals, plastics, or metal fused with ceramic. The ball itself is often plated with chrome for added durability. The ideal ball valve material depends on factors such as operating temperature, pressure, and the type of fluid that will move through it.
Another design aspect of ball valves is their port profile. The hole through the ball can have different profiles such as V-shaped, reduced port or full port:
V-Shaped. A V-shaped or characterized profile allows for more precise control of flow rate by rotating the ball. The profile can be optimized to achieve linear flow characteristics.
Reduced port. This is the most common type of bore profile. Reduced bore ball valves can introduce friction losses into a system; however, these losses are relatively small compared to other valve types.
Full port. These ports have the same diameter as the pipe, meaning they are easier to clean and there are no extra friction losses. However, full port valves often cost more and are bigger than standard ball valves.
